Welcome to Movvio!

Movvio is an app for the lovely movie watchers out there! The goal was to make an app that could be used daily, massively interactive and would solve a problem within the industry we chose. Movvio serves to bring people easy searches for movies, daily challenges for movies, and provide resources about that movie like where to find them, why they are important, etc.

Targeted Problem

Movies are loved by most people! However, there’s a big problem when it comes to finding them.

With the overwhelming number of movies and shows available across platforms, film lovers often struggle to find content that truly matches their tastes. Movvio hopes to offer personalized daily movie information, easy search features, and new movie topics per month. We serve to make Movvio enjoyable for users to learn about movies and find great films every day.

Research

Firstly, I learned about different streaming brands, as they were my biggest competitor. Many platforms like Netflix and Hulu, have contracts with the owners of a movie and stream it for a certain amount of time. Or companies like Disney, where their platform is everything movie/show under their brand. These platforms do well from their interfaces and wide selection of movies. There were also other smaller competitors like Shark Week, which is able to gain a ton of entertainment each July because its topic based.

I concluded Movvio needed to provide the following:

  • Wide Search for movies

  • Topics or themes of movies

  • Easy access to acquire information about movies

User Interface

The user interface was critical to the success of the app. I began creating an outline of the different sections Movvio would need, including:

  • Sign Up & Account Page

  • Homepage

  • Interactive Search Features

  • Movie of the Day/Topic of the Month

This process would undergo a lot of different changes, including adding an account page as well similar features like a built in calendar and a review page.

Branding

What also made Movvio Really tricking to get correctly was its branding. Especially its logo design. I wanted Movvio to be completely similar yet different to its competitors. I tried a wide variety of different ideas. However, the class favorites were the middle left and right left. With a bit of changing, the Movvio Logo had been complete.

Final Result

Movvio eventually became a very unique app. It was able to stand out amongst its competitors, and felt like it didn’t have too much or too little, just the right amount. That app was able to provide its users with:

1. High Accessible Searches

Movvio’s search system covers a wide range to find movies including: genre, topic and year. There is also a secondary search option, users are able to find their movie alphabetized.

2. Large Interface

With more than 90+ different pages, the interface of Movvio allows for great interactivity between pages, and provides large amounts of movie content for the user to learn about.

3. Daily Activity

Movvio also allowed for the different types of types of ways to interact with a fact based app. Users can review movies, create or use checklists for movie watching in the app, and take quizzes about specific movies to rise amongst movie fans.

Reflection

I truly believe that Movvio was able to accomplish as much as it did within the time I had. Originally, the idea seemed ambitious, too much for a student to grasp. But I wanted to challenge myself to make an app that can accomplish so much and provides information about the movies we all love.

There are couple minor things I would change however. I would love to include shows into the mix in some way, since Movvio only covers movies at the moment. I would also like to expand on some of the ideas I had in the early process, like having a recommendation section in each of the movies own pages. Yet, overall, I am satisfied with the outcome of this project. To the movie lovers out there, I hope movie facts and searching for them has become easier!
