Edgerton Park Montage

Timeline: 2 weeks, November 3rd, 2025 - November 17th, 2025

Tools: Premiere Pro, Sony Film Equipment, and Canon Camera

Role: Producer, Cameraman, Designer and Editor

Executive Summary

In New Haven, Connecticut, there lies a community park known as Edgerton Park. The friendly people who go there everyday really make Edgerton a safe place to be. Its this community that drew me into the space when the opportnity to film there came to be from this montage project.

Background

I am a natural girl at heart. Love the outside more than I care to admit. I loved the park that live by in my home in Massachusetts. Cozy, kind people, fun activities, you name it. So when my Audio and Video tasked us filming a montage about a historical place, park, musuem, etc. I knew I wanted the same vibe as my home.

Which is when I ran into Edgerton Park. It was not what I expected. Big and beautiful, I knew the moment I set foot that I wanted to film there for my project.

Inspirations

When I first went to Edgerton Park, it had this extremely warm and calming vibe. And the more I did research, the more I research just how poetic the park truly was. So when I looked to ideas to help inspire what style of filming I wanted, I was immediately drawn to UP.

Specifically the marriage life sequence (I know, made me cry too). Just the way the sequence is shot brings this sense of “oh everything is alright, even when the worst happens.” It’s an incredible approach, and one that stayed in the back of mind while filming.

Process

As you will see soon, I struggled a lot. But at the same time, I’m glad I struggled. If I hadn’t, then I would of never changed how I viewed the filming of this montage. As a result, I really got to see how filming truly works, and the time that is required for everything to be on your side.

Practice Photos/Planning Doc

To start the week off poorly, we had to take practice photos to understand composition. And boy, did I not do well. The main problem I had is the fact that my sleep schedule was so bad that I kept sleeping though the most of the day. As a result, when I tried to take photos, they came out quite doubt.

Plus we had to do a planning document which was helpful to practice with but at the same time, made looking at the photos a hard hit to the face essentially. Because I knew that I could do better.

Physical Filming

On the brighter side of things, filming there with the Sony Equipement actually had a lot of benefit! For one thing, the people who helped take care of the park showed me what to be careful of but also allowed film in areas rarely seen like their greenhouse. Plus, with my film roommate by my side for those two weeks, I was able to get a good understanding of the equipment more easily.

Final Product

After those 2 weeks and editing within Premiere Pro, the final cut was done and put on YouTube! I highly recommend you watch the montage because the story is of one full of love and community. Edgerton needs something like this, because with all the other bigger parks in New Haven, Edgerton can get forgotten.

Reflection

Overall, I was fine this video. Honestly, I found that using the Sony film camera wasn’t really a challenge, and it was fun trying to get the right shots, even improvising whenever a new idea came to be. As for editing, Premiere Pro made editing look amazing. When you see everything come together, its one of the most satisfying feelings. And my favorite part of it was color grading, since many shots didn’t feel vibrate without the enhancements. I think that more people should visit Edgerton Park either way, because you can see the good that people bring into the park.

Next Steps

For where to head to next:

  • I want to retake photos of the park. Mine currently don’t give the park justice with all its pretty colors and structures.

  • I also want to possibly help film something that has to do with their carriage house. I didn’t get to go in when I went and I wasn’t sure if a permit was needed, so maybe in the future, I can go there!
